This Virgo Season, Push Past the Dreaded Routine to Create Positive Rituals Instead

Summer is coming to a close: the free-spirit energy, the loosey-goose schedule, the ongoing celebration. As the erratic energy settles and heat gives way to glimpses of fall, the freshness in the morning air reawakens a sense of purpose. How fun and liberating that season was, but it’s only natural to begin to crave the organization that routine provides. But before you cringe and tense up with the mere thought of the creativity-sucking confines of a routine, let’s look at routine through a new lens this season with three new perspectives.

  1. Take Control of Your Routine, Before It Takes Control of You!

The word routine has such an unnecessarily negative connotation. Routines can be limiting, but they can also be freeing. We think of routines as the “must-dos”, rather than the “want to dos”. And sure, many things must get done, but not all the things. Our routines should be a mixture of both! Your routine should be carefully crafted and filled with meaningful rituals, along with the tasks that keep your life on track. Rituals mixed into your day will bring you joy, peace, connection, and self-reflection. In the busyness of life, an intentionally designed routine can instead be your method to carve out time for those rituals most important to you. Simply going through the motions of life would be a waste of this incredible gift on earth, but carving out moments to enjoy life creates time for you to thrive, rather than just survive.

For example, connecting with yourself daily is critical to your well-being and growth. You may find the quiet of early mornings the best time for your reflection. So, part of your daily routine is to wake up an hour before your family, slowly sip on a tantalizing cup of pour-over coffee (a ritual all in itself!), and journal in your favorite comfy chair… completely uninterrupted. Just the flicker of the candle next to you keeping you company.

Or maybe evenings are your preferred time and your favorite way to close your day is a relaxing soak in your tub. The peaceful music in the background, the smell of bath salts in the air, and the warm water on your body give you the perfect chance to assess and process in peace. This ritual within your routine is one you look forward to all day.

As you craft your fall schedule, ensure whichever ritual serves you most becomes part of your routine.

2. Take a Pause to Chart Your Future, on Your Terms

Now that you’ve made time in your routine to connect with yourself regularly, you may notice dreams and aspirations start to creep into your thoughts. At first, they may seem like crazy, passing notions, but as you continue prioritizing this 1-on-1 time you begin to listen to your soul telling you something meaningful. Before you know it, you start having aspirations far beyond what you imagined. That old routine (the one before your rituals) held you in a stagnant cycle, but your new routine with nourishing rituals is opening your eyes to growth and a renewed sense of purpose. You start to have dreams, goals, and a zest for life that you didn’t even realize you were missing.

Take pause when these soul whispers arrive and ask yourself these questions:

  • Who do I want to become?

  • Why is this appealing to you?

  • What in your life is preventing you?

  • What in your life would change if you worked towards this goal?

  • What is holding you back?

  • Do you feel you are worthy?

If you felt yourself tense up with that last question, take notice. You are worthy! Everyone deserves happiness, joy, love, connection, and growth! Virgos love a self-reflection session. Whether their outlet is journaling, meditation, yoga, or deep conversations, they’ll always find a way to assess all angles of a situation. Some may view this as over-analyzing, and sometimes Virgos will indeed find more pleasure in assessment than in action, but the beauty of Virgo season is in the power of the pause. That space between the idea and the action, or after the action and before moving on, is where Virgos share their wisdom. Take some time to answer those questions prior and marinate on the answers. You might surprise yourself with what you discover!

3. Love the Current Version of You More Than the Future Vision of You

This brings us to the next, most important, lesson from the season: Finding a balance between loving who you are right now, while still working towards who you want to become in the future. It’s all too easy to get caught up in the vision of “one day”. “Everything will be great when….” or “I’ll be happy when…”. But you’re missing the point, to attract more happiness, you must be happy in the now. Like attracts like. The present moment is where life really is, not the future.

So while creating your rituals and routines, leave space for the present moment. Leave room to be flexible and go with the flow. The happier you are now, the more you can build upon it, and the more the momentum snowballs. Maybe you are starting at a low level of happiness, and that’s ok! Add one activity to your daily routine that brings a smile to your face. Most importantly, recognize when that moment is happening. Quite literally, stop and say to yourself “Wow, this is so much fun”. Thank yourself for providing space in your day for that moment of joy. This positive reinforcement will encourage your subconscious to continue finding these moments. Maybe one of your daily rituals is writing out 3 things that brought you joy that day. This may be challenging at first, but soon your mind will silently catalog blissful moments knowing you’ll draw upon this bank later in the evening.

The Time Is Now…

Firey Leo season taught us to step proudly into the truest version of ourselves. We were reminded to remove the mask and live authentically, lead from the heart, and embrace the most raw and vulnerable aspects of ourselves. As we enter the grounding energy of Virgo season, hold tight to that newfound self-determination. Virgo season pushes us towards growth, but we can only grow if we are certain of who we are when we begin.

As summer comes to a close I hope you no longer are looking to the season of routine with dread, but rather, with open arms and fresh perspective. Take this time to intentionally craft your routine and fill your days with inspiring rituals, not just the mundane (but necessary) tasks. Your routine can be productive while still motivating. Remember, it should be enjoyable to grow! Include a few rituals each day that push you towards your dreams because you want to, not because you have to. And no matter what, love yourself through the process.
